Aldebaran Robotics, a French robotics company, has successfully developed a humanoid robot that replaces Nao Sony AIBO production as a platform for the Robocup. This year, they plan to launch a new humanoid robot, named Romeo.
Aldebaran Robotics Technical Director Asia Pacific Alban Nanty said, "Romeo is designed to assist parents. He could get food, opened the door of the house, throwing garbage, acting like a friend for parents and comfort."
Unlike the robot Nao which is the mini, Romeo measuring 1.4 meters, nearly equal to the average human height. The robot weighs 40 kilograms has been developed since early 2009, involving 13 partner with the fund reached 10 million euros derived from the French government and the private sector.
In this robot, Aldebaran will introduce several new features robots, including robots that has 4 vertebrae, limbs are more soft, and the exoskeleton leg actuaror new type that enables the robot to control the motion in a more safe.
In the project Romeo, Aldebaran attempt to develop a robot with better communication skills. Maissonier Bruno, founder and CEO of Aldebaran says, "We want people to talk to Romeo uses language and gesture that is very natural."
Romeo will have 37.2 degrees of freedom DOF (degree of freedom) for each eye, 1 DOF for each leg and 3 DOF for the spine. Actuator called backdrivable will strengthen joint robot mechanism that ensures the robot moves the hands and feet are more stable.
This robot will be sold at a price range of 250,000 euros. For the first stage, the robot will be given to the partner developers and researchers. Type which has been developed to be offered to hospitals and nursing, before finally to individuals.
