SYDNEY - Australia has strict laws regarding tobacco now issue a new policy. All cigarette packs must be plastered with images of health warnings and use the olive green color.

Under the legislation (Act) which aims to reduce smoking rates, all the logos are removed from the packs of cigarettes. The tobacco companies also must print their cigarette brands with specific letters. The plan these laws come into force next year.

Australian Health Minister said the olive green color was chosen because research shows that color does not attract the attention of most smokers. Color selection is also to prevent tobacco companies market their products with a luxurious appearance or cool.

Besides color, the Australian Government also plans to require health warnings such as loading images of gum disease, eye blind and children who were treated in hospital. The images should cover 75 percent of the front and back of cigarette packs.

"Wrap a new cigarette designed to have little appeal to smokers and clarify the ill effects of smoking for your health," said Health Minister Nicola Roxon told AFP on Thursday (04/07/2011).

The new law will prohibit the loading of cigarette company logos, brands, colors, and promotional text on the packs of cigarettes.
