SEOUL - South Korean government (ROK) expressed concern about Japan's decision to dispose of radioactive water into the sea to stabilize the reactor at nuclear power plants.
Japanese nuclear power plant operators on Monday, April 4 began removing more than 10 thousand tons of water contaminated with low levels of radiation into the Pacific Ocean. The water discharged is water that has been used to cool reactors at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
The earthquake and tsunami on 11 March in Japan has damaged the reactor coolant system in Fukushima, it resulted in reactor fuel rods continued to heat up.
Yonhap news agency quoted a diplomat at the South Korean Foreign Ministry declared South Korean Embassy in Tokyo has expressed concern that the disposal of radioactive water into the ocean may violate international law. Thus was launched AFP on Tuesday (05/04/2011).
"The proximity between South Korea and Japan who make the disposal problem of radioactive water is an important issue for us,"said an unnamed diplomat in Yonhap. However, a spokesman for South Korea's Foreign Ministry was reluctant to respond to the news.
Another said a diplomat for the current South Korean government still has no definite standard of how much radioactive and how severe its impact on humans.
"We're working with scientists and legal experts to create clear guidelines," the diplomat said.
